Movie Report 3

Corpse Bride (2005)

a.       Character
1.        Johnny Depp as Victor Van Dort
Victor is a shy, nervous, good hearted,, and handsome young man with pale skin and black hair. He is very tall and thin. He is from a humble fish-mongering origins family. He is engaged to Victoria Everglot for social reason. He is a good Pianist.
2.        Helen Bonham Carter as Emily
Emily is a corpse bride. She is a beautiful and undead women who has blue skin.
She often shows her smile and laugh. She enjoys dancing and playing the piano.
3.      Emily Watson as Victoria Everglot
     Victoria is a sweet-natured and pretty girl. She is also kind and shy and soft –spoken girl. She is engaged to Victor Van Dort. She doesn’t laugh or smile as much as Emily, but she is quite sassy and smart.
4.         Tracey Ullman as Nell Van Dort
     She is Victor’s mother who maried to William Van Dort, a succesfull owner of cannery. She is an ambitious woman. She often wears expensive clothing, a folding fan and some kind of animal around her neck.
5.        Paul Whitehouse as William Van Dort.
     He is Victor’s father. He is a kind, good - natured, and successful fishmonger. He appears easily excitable. He is much more amiable and soft - spoken.
6.        Joanna Luley as Lady Maudeline Everglot
     She is Victoria’s mother. She is hard-faced mother and a cold woman. She almost never smile. She feels that marriage is simply partnership.
7.        Albert Finney as Lord Finis Everglot
      He is Victoria’s father who has married with Maudeline Everglot. He is a grim and avaricious father. He descendes from a Grand Duke.
8.      Richard E. Grant as Lord barkis Bittern.
      He is a selfish and evil man. He only cares about money. He is the one who murdered Emily. He steals Emily’s jewels and gold.
9.      Christopher Lee as Pastor Gallswells
      He is a stern and bad - tempered priest. He is hired to conduct Victor and Victoria’s marriage.
10.  Michael Gough as Elder Gutknecth
      He is one of the residents of the Land of the Dead.  He lives at the top of an old crumbing tower. He is an ancient skeleton with no teeth.
11.  Jane Horrocks as Mrs. Plum
      She is a plump ded woman who has worked at the Ball and Socket Pub. She is responsible for cooking wedding cake for Victor and Emily’s wedding.
12.  Enn Reitel as Maggot
      He is a resident of the Land of the Dead. He makes his residence inside Emily’s head. He is a green maggot with large pink lips. He often gives some advices to Emily.
13.  Deep Roy as General Bonesapart
      He is a dwarfish skeleton in a military uniform. He is a resident of the Land of The Dead.

b.      Synopsis of the Movie

            The film is about Victor Van Dort (Johnny Depp), a son of a fish merchand, and Victoria Everglot (Emily Watson), a daughter of bankrupt aristocrats. They are engaged by their families to marry.
            Victor meets Victoria when he sits down to play piano in Victoria’s house. They are shy and play piano together. They are falling in love. They don’t get married because Victor runs into the forest after being scoded by Pastor Galswells.
            In the forest, Victor practices his vows and placing the wedding ring on whaat looks like a tree branch. The branch is actually the finger of Emily, a decease bride who is thrilled by Finis. Accidentally,  Emily wakes up. Victor is shocked to find out that he accidentally marry Emily, the corpse bride. Will Victor stay with Emily or Victoria? How is the next?

c.       Identification of the Introduction, Climax and Resolution.
1.      Introduction
      It starts when Victor and Victoria meet each other and fall in love until Victor wants to marry Victoria, but it is failed because he runs into the forest. Accidentally, He gets married with Emily, the corpse bride.
2.      Climax
      It start when Victor doesn’t want to stay in Land of the Dead. He wants to go back home and get married with Victoria. Emily is broken heart by Victor’s deception..
3.      Resolution
      Victor decides to stay with Emily. He decides to drink poison. When Victor wants to drink it, Emily stops him. Emily realizes that they are in different life. She also reunites Victor and Victoria. She gives the wedding ring back to Victor. Then, She transforms into hundreds of butterflies as she step into the moonlight.

d.      Language Expressions
1.     Overrated! Overblown! If only he could see how special you can be; if he only knew you that we know.
2.      Enough! That will be all.

e.       Comment
·         Point of View:

            I think this is a good film. This film really touch my heart. Although Victor doesn’t want to life with Emily, but he decides to drink poison to make Emily happy. He doesn’t want to make Emily broken heart. In another hand, Emily realized that they are in different life. Victor and Victoria is reunited by Emily because she falls in love with Victor. She wants to let Victor live happily with Victoria.

Movie Report 2 - Coraline

MOVIE REPORT: CORALINE (2009)

a.       Character

1.      Dakota Fanning as Coraline Jones.
She is  a brave, clever, curious 11-year-old girl with dark blue hair. She is uncomfortable with his life with her parents because her parents are busy. She is also annoyed by her bland life.
2.      Teri Hatcher as Mel Jones.
She is Coraline's busy mother, and the Other Mother. She is working as a writer on a gardening catalog. She doesn’t give her attention. She never cooks and goes shopping.The Other Mother is the creator of the other world. She also transforms herself into different people. Other Mother’s true form is a spider. Her eyes are buttons. She seems like a perfect mom, because she always gives her attention to Caroline.
3.      Jennifer Saunders as Miss Spink April
She is a retired burlesque actress. She has many dogs in her house. She can read Caroline’s future life by tea leaves. She sees peculiar hand in the tea cup after Coraline drinks it. She is always in different idea with Miss Miriam Forcible. The Other Spink is beatiful. Later, She merges as a green monster.
4.      Dawn French as Miss Miriam Forcible
She is a retired burlesque actress using unique glasses. She has different idea with Miss Spink April. The Other Forcible is a young and beautiful lady. Later, she merges as a pink monster.
5.      John Hodgman as Charlie Jones
He is Coraline's father and the Other Father. He is a writer. He always spends his time in front of his computer. He also cook for their meal but Coraline doesn’t like the meal. The Other Father is a singer-pianist and gardener. He is forced by Coraline’s Other Mother to do this or that.
6.      John Linnell as Other Father’s Singing Voice.
7.      Ian McShane as Mr. Sergei Alexander Bobinsky.
His friend calls him Mr. B. He is a blue-skinned Russian. He is eccentric boy. The Other Mr. Bobinsky is a master of circus of jumping mice. Later, he exists only as a coat filled with rats.
8.      Keith David as The Black Cat.
It is a mysterious cat. It is familiar with Wybie. In other world, he has ability to speak and acts as Coraline’s guide in her journey.
9.      Robert Bailey as Wyborne or Wybie Lovat.
He is a nervous boy. He is 11 years old. He doesn’t have a friend. He stalks Coraline. In other world, he doesn’t have ability to speak. He helps Coraline to go away from the other world at the end.
10.  Carolyn Crawford as Mrs. Lovat.
She is Wybie’s Grandmother. She is an overprotective grandmother. She is the owner of Pink Palace apartments. She has a sister, but she can’t find her because her sister has kidnapped by Other Mother. She doesn’t allow Wybie to enter her childhood house.

b.      Synopsis of the Movie:
Coraline Jones, an 11 years old girl moves with her parent from Pontiac to Michigan. She and her parents live in Pink Palace Apartments. In Pink Palace Apartments, there are Miss Spink, Miss Forcible and Mr. Bobinsky. She has busy parents. She doesn’t get good attention from her parents. She explores her new home and meets Wyborne, the grandson of the apartments. In her home, she finds a small door, but it is sealed off by brick wall.
At night, she looks a mouse and follows it to small door. She goes there and finds herself in a the Other World. The situasion is the same with her house and she finds other mother and other father. The other mother and other father have black bottons eyes. They give great attention to Coraline. They give anything to Coraline. Caroline fall asleep in the Other World, but she awakes at her house in the next morning. She enjoys her life with other mother and other father. Other mother asks Coraline to stay with her and other father and changes her eyes with black buttons. Will Coraline decide to change her eyes and stay with them? How is the next?

c.       Identification of the Introduction, Climax and Resolution.

1.      Introduction
It starts when Coraline and her parents have moved from Pontiac to Pink Palace Apartment in Michigan until she has founded a parallel world and meet other parents.
2.      Climax
It starts when Coraline has decided to go back home.She doesn’t want to change her eyes with buttons. Other mother gets angry with her and changes into a spider.
3.      Resolution
It starts when Coraline has gone away from Other World. She throw away the key of small door with Wybie to a water witch. She lives with her parents forever.

d.      Language Expressions:
1.      Time to muscle up. It means that someone ask to do something.
2.      Show me the well! It means that someone needs a truth from something.
3.      Just let me work. It means that someone ask to leave him with his work.
4.      Zip it. It means that someone ask you to be silent and give no comment at all.
5.      Wasn’t the same without you, Kiddo. It means that someone say that the situation will be different when you wasn’t there.
6.      It’s all made up. It means that all of the things has done.
7.      Drink up then. Go on. It means that someone ask you to drink quickly.
8.      Hand it over. It means that you should let it go from your hands.
9.      Look, I gotta go. It means that someone will go to a place.
10.  Hop on, kiddo. It means that someone ask you to go with him.
11.  Hang on. It means that someone needs you to wait for a moment.
12.  Apologize at one. It means that someone wants you to apologize about something.
13.  How dare you disobey your mother. It means that you aren’t a good child.
14.  Pick it up. It means that someone ask you to pick up the phone.
15.  That must be it! It means that someone finds something.

e.       Comment
I think this movie is great. The movie tells the brave of a kid face the danger. It also tell a hug love for her parents. He doesn’t wanna choose to be a part of another family. This movie learns us that the parents are the best things in this world. No one can change their love in your heart.
